FRANCISCO CATALA BERTOMEU 

     Begins its musical studies in the Musical Society Santa Cecilia of Cullera    as percussionist with 13 years. At 15 initiates the study of Double Bass bass at the Real Conservatorio de Musica in Madrid with E.Maravella finalizing at 19 with the maximum qualifications and prizes included the "Extraordinario Fin de Carrera" unanimously. Continues in Switzerland for three years with F.Petracchi being Prize of Virtuosity of the Conservatory of Geneva. Subsequently extensive its studies in London with Thomas Martin, attending courses of improvement with G.Etorre, L.Lanzilotta, B.Cazauran, J.Bradetich, T.Barbe, J.Katrama, W.Guttler, K.Leopold and B.Salles.

      ITs technique is characterized for the employment of the French bow as well as the German.

       Winner of the International competition of Double Bass Murcia-94, Interpretation Competition City of Valencia and the Strings Competition of Spanish JJ.MM., develops an soloist activity in Audiences and festivals in Spain, Italy, Switzerland and United States.       He premieres the piece "Escorzo Grave"by Cesar Cano at the Valencia´s Palau de la Musica   and interprets to Dragonetti, Françaix , Bottesini  and Koussevitzky with diverses orchestras. Has been regular Professor in the Municipal Conservatories of Valencia and LLiria, Academy Jove d´orquestra and invited by those of Alicante, Valencia, La Coruña, Zaragoza,Jaen, Cordoba as collaborating professor  with the Philharmonic Orchestra of the university of Valencia, JOSSV, OJRM,  World Orchestra of JJ.MM, Curs International of Cullera, Curs de Estiu in L´Eliana, International University of Andalucia, International Academy of Gandia, International Music School of Lucena, North Texas University.etc...

Has belonged to the JORVAL, JONDE, Geveva´s Conservatory Orchestra, J.Rodrigo Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra of Barcelona´s Liceu Opera Theatre, and World Orchestra of JJ.MM.

Collaborates habitually with formations of Chamber Music as the Grup Instrumental of Valencia, Ensemble ConTempo,Espai Sonor and Cambra XX.

Currently is Principal Double Bass at the Orquestra de Valencia.
